PRos Against Su*cide: New grassroots initiative tackles mental health challenges in the PR industry
Registration is open for the first virtual meetup in December
Seattle, Wash. — Nov 25, 2024 — In response to recent deaths and the increased focus on mental health across industries, PRos Against Su*cide is launching as a grassroots organization to confront the unique mental health challenges faced by public relations professionals. The group will hold its first meetup on December 19, 2024, to create a space for open conversations, mutual support, and proactive solutions for mental well-being in the PR industry.
Mental health is receiving more attention than ever—from wellness apps to corporate initiatives and celebrity endorsements. However, a persistent stigma and widespread fear of sharing struggles continue to plague individuals, particularly those in high-pressure professions like PR. Recent industry research underscores the urgency of this issue:
• 90% of PR professionals reported experiencing mental health challenges.
• 67% identified overwhelming workloads as a key stressor.
• 61% felt guilty taking time off for mental health reasons, while 40% never disclosed their struggles at work.
While conversations about mental health are increasing in volume, the PR industry remains a sector where the unrelenting pressure to perform and deliver creates additional barriers to seeking help.
“Communications professionals spend their careers telling other people’s stories, but we often find it hard to tell our own," said organizers. "By launching this group, we aim to normalize conversations about mental health and empower PR professionals to support one another and themselves.”

Why Now?
The formation of PRos Against Su*cide comes at a critical moment when mental health is at the forefront of national discourse. From outpourings of public and political support to debates on the definition and prioritization of mental health, there’s no better time to act.
For PR professionals, this topic transcends politics and touches the heart of workplace culture. Normalizing conversations about mental health is a step toward reducing stigma and fostering resilience within the industry.
